Q. What is a data center? A. A data center is a computer facility designed for continuous use by several users, and well equipped with hardware, software, peripherals, power conditioning and backup, communication equipment, security systems, etc. Per-rack power requirements constrain the number of racks a data center can support. A typical 10,000 - 20,000 sq. ft. facility designed for 50 - 100 watts/sq. ft requires 1/2 megawatt to 2 megawatts of power. Availability and cost of utility power in the megawatt range is expensive and difficult to obtain. Supporting infrastructure - generators, ATS, UPS, and distribution equipment - also are costly. Careful planning and growth projections must be maintained to ensure power requirements can be met. There is no single, standardized method to account for data center costs. Users need to define a chart of accounts that specifies all the cost elements that constitute the overall cost, and the key portfolios or categories (such as servers, software and networking) that are part of that cost. Operating system virtualization is the use of software to allow a piece of hardware to run multiple operating system images at the same time. Virtualization can be viewed as part of an overall trend in enterprise IT that includes autonomic computing, a scenario in which the IT environment will be able to manage itself based on perceived activity, and utility computing, in which computer processing power is seen as a utility that clients can pay for only as needed. When people talk about virtualization, they are usually referring to server virtualization, which means partitioning one physical server into several virtual servers, or machines. Data backup involves the saving of your data in two or more locations, so that if something happens to your computer, you still have your data reserved in backup. This allows you to keep your data even if you lose your computer. With the Cisco UCS 82598KR-CI adapters, a maximum of two adapters are presented to the VMware ESX hypervisor running on the blade. This interface count does not support a fabric failover, and the service console must be migrated to the Cisco Nexus 1000V Series Switch along with all these other adapter types if any high-availability requirement exists. The actual migration of this interface during VMware ESX deployment on the blade is discussed in the specific adapter section later in this document, but for more detailed information about how to migrate a user's service console, see the Cisco Nexus 1000V Series documentation. Green IT can be defined as research in and use of IT in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner. A data storage system includes a disk drive array including a plurality of disk drives; a first storage processor for controlling the operation of the data storage system; a second storage processor forcontrolling the operation of the data storage system; a first arbiter for controlling communication of data from the first storage processor and the second storage processor to a first group of disk drives of the disk drive array; a second arbiter forcontrolling communication of data from the first storage processor and the second storage processor to a second group of disk drives of the disk drive array; and a third arbiter for controlling communication of data from the first storage processor andthe second storage processor to a third group of disk drives of the disk drive array. Selected data is redundantly stored on disk drives in the first group of disk drives, the second group of disk drives and the third group of disk drives such that, upon failure of the first arbiter, the selected data is available to the first storage processor and the second storage processor through the second and third arbiters. The Cisco Nexus 1000V provides real-time coordinated configuration of network and security services and maintains a virtual machine-centric management model, enabling the server administrator to increase both efficiency and flexibility. |
