Q. What is the best environment for complicated IT functions? A. Multiple systems, such as inventory control, credit card processing, accounting and much more will be involved in a complex process such as eCommerce checkout. A failure in one will compromise all the others. A data center is the best environment for these complicated IT functions. Data Centers are needed to protect against data loss. Statistics about the harm done to businesses by data loss in a disaster, suggest that nearly 50 percent of companies report each hour of downtime could cost up to $50K. Beyond backup and recovery protection, ensuring maximum data center availability and up time is clearly crucial to business success. Raise the temperature of the data center to around 24 degrees Celsius, while ensuring that all equipment is certified at the new temperature. This will reduce the level of cooling required and, thus, the energy bill. In-house data centers can be a business weak link if proper attention isn’t paid to power use, cooling capacity, disaster recovery preparedness, running IT to support compliance initiatives, and staffing flexibility to support utility computing initiatives. Virtual machines offer many benefits: server consolidation, increased utilization and faster recovery times after failure. IT has found as the most compelling tool is virtualization technology. Data backup can take many forms. After all, any medium on which you save your files apart from your primary computer is considered backup. You might even want to backup your data in more than one location, just in case. If you depend highly upon your computer and upon the files contained therein, you can never be too careful when it comes to protecting your files from disaster. The Cisco UCS uses three adapter types, with four specific models: the Cisco UCS 82598KR-CI 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, UCS M71KR-Q QLogic Converged Network Adapter, UCS M71KR-E Emulex Converged Network Adapter, and UCS M81KR Virtual Interface Card. Each of these cards has a pair of 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections to the Cisco Unified Computing System backplane that support the IEEE 802.1 Data Center Bridging function (formerly called Cisco Data Center Ethernet) to facilitate I/O unification within these adapters. On each adapter type, one of these backplane ports is connected through 10GBASE-KR to the A-side I/O module; then that connection goes to the A-side fabric interconnect. 10GBASE-KR is a copper midplane technology for interfacing adapters and switching elements through these midplanes. The other connection is 10GBASE-KR to the B-side I/O module; that connection then goes to the B-side fabric interconnect. Figure 3 later in this document shows this connectivity. The recent attention on Green IT technologies has opened new career opportunities for IT professionals. Since some of the areas need specialized attention such as energy efficiency, environmental laws and ethical disposal, some organizations have created new positions and divisions to embrace this upcoming trend. High availability data systems optimize the reliability of data storage systems by providing redundancy only of critical components to eliminate single points of failure. A single point of failure occurs when the failure of a single component of a system causes the entire system to cease operating, resulting in the potential loss of data. Therefore, one goal in designing a high availability data storage system is to provide a satisfactory level of reliability while keeping the cost of the system in check. The Cisco Nexus 5010 Switch foundation is built upon High-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Data Center Ethernet, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), and Virtual-machine-optimized networking. |
